Zaira Wasim is my role model, says on-screen father Aamir Khan

Dangal’ star Aamir Khan, who played Zaira Wasim’s on-screen father, has also come out in support of the 16-year-old, who played the younger version of Geeta Phogat in the blockbuster biopic. The actor said that Zaira was not only a role model for kids, but for him as well.

Aamir posted a note on Facebook and Twitter stating, “I have read Zaira's statement, and I can understand and imagine what lead her to make that statement.”

“Zaira, I want you to know that we are all with you. The beauty is that bright, young, talented, hardworking, respectful, caring and courageous kids like you are a role model for kids not only in India, but across the world. You certainly are a role model for me! May god bless you. Love. Aamir.

“P.S. : I appeal to everyone to now leave her alone and respect the fact that she is just a 16 yr old girl trying her best to deal with life," Aamir wrote.

Zaira, who was reportedly threatened and bullied on social media for meeting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, yesterday posted a confession/apology on Twitter and Facebook, which she later deleted.

Without taking names or clearly mentioning the reason for her apology, Zaira sought forgiveness from those who were offended by “my recent actions or by the people I have recently met.”

Aamir and Zaira will be next seen together in 'Secret Superstar'.

Other Bollywood celebrities like Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar and Sonu Nigam also slammed trolls and supported the teen actress. Kher tweeted, “Dear @zairawasim! Ur apology letter is sad but full of courage. It exposes d cowardice of people who made u write it.But u r my #RoleModel.”

“May God give Sanity to this World. And a Bigger Perspective of Humanity beyond Religion and Patriotism. #ZairaWasim,” wrote the ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’ singer.
