What’s in a name? A lot.

Veer-Zaara‘Veer-Zaara’ – the title of Yash Chopra’s next has a very ‘period film’ kind of a feel to it. Upon pondering on why Yash Chopra titled his movie ‘Veer-Zaara,’ one may find the reason to be obvious. There have been famous stories about two lovers, which
have been titled likewise, for example, ‘Romeo Juliet’, ‘Heer Ranjha,’ ‘Sohni Mahiwal’ and ‘Laila Majnu’ to name a few. One is compelled to wonder if ‘Veer-Zaara’ is another title that will be added to the list of titles in the above category.

If observed closely, the English title, ‘Romeo Juliet’ has the name of the male character before the female character’s name. Whereas, in the Hindi titles, it is otherwise. Incidentally, The title of Yash Chopra’s next has Shahrukh Khan’s (the male character, Veer) name before Preity Zinta’s (the female character, Zaara). Is this a mere coincidence or is it one of Chopra’s well thought out schemes?

Some may call the title unique and others, boring. The more important aspect of this title is that it neither has those typical words like ‘pyaar,’ ‘dil,’ ‘jaan,’ etc. nor is it like some titles whose abbreviations need to be abbreviated.

To add to the anticipation and maximize their profits, the Chopras are releasing ‘Veer-Zaara’ on or near Diwali. There have been movies in the past such as ‘Raja Hindustani,’ ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ ‘Dil To Pagal Hai,’ ‘Mohabbatein’ and a few others, that have clicked on the box office and have been proved as big hits. On the other hand, some movies like ‘Ssshhh…,’ ‘Raja Bhaiya,’ ‘Ishq Hai Tumse,’ ‘Inteha’ etc., which also released around the festive season of Diwali, have not been able to establish themselves or work well. Now the big question is: Will ‘Veer-Zaara’ benefit from its release around Diwali?

With the release of ‘Veer-Zaara,’ the Chopras are progressing on to yet another level and that is the launch of the ‘Yash Raj Music’ label. Yash Raj music is sure to get a big boost from the release of this much-anticipated movie. To add to the hype, the well-known music director, late Madan Mohan composed the music and the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar.

‘Veer-Zaara’ is all set to release in November.

Note: There has been a certain amount of confusion on how the title is spelled. Just to clarify the spelling, it’s ‘Veer-Zaara’ and not ‘Veer-Zara.’
