‘Welcome Back’ sees record breaking opening in Pakistan

Anees Bazmee’s comic caper ‘Welcome Back’ which released last week is drawing crowds at the theatres not just in India but in the neighbouring nation of Pakistan as well.

While the John Abraham and Shruti Haasan starrer collected Rs. 51 crore in three days at the Indian counters, the two-day figures from the neighbouring country stood at a massive PKR 3.4 crore.

Eros Now, the production company of the laugh riot tweeted, “RECORD BREAKING opening for #WelcomeBack in #Pakistan Total collections for the first two days was Rs.3.4 Cr (Pakistani Rs.) #Houseful.”

The film earned PKR 1.6 crore on the opening day, i.e, Friday and PKR 1.8 crore on Saturday taking the two day total to PKR 3.4 crore.  

Salman Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ which also saw an incredible performance across the border made PKR 4.4 crores in its first weekend.

‘Welcome Back’ is the sequel of Bazmee’s 2007 blockbuster comedy ‘Welcome’. The film begins from where the prequel ended and the gangsters Manju Bhai and Uday Shetty, played by Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar respectively, have turned into gentlemen in the sequel.

Besides Anil and Nana, Paresh Rawal has also reprised his role from the previous film. The rest of the casts are new additions. They include John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Nasseruddin Shah, Shiney Ahuja, Dimple Kapadia and debutante Ankita Shrivastava.
