‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ release postponed; Not to clash with ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns

The release of film ‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ starring Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnani has been postponed by a week to avoid a clash with ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’. ‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ will now hit screens on May 28, also a Thursday.

The Ashish R Mohan directorial was originally scheduled to release on May 21, a day ahead of Anand L Rai’s film. This decision has given ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ solo space at the box office on May 22.

Jackky shared the news over his twitter handle: “#Welcome2Karachi now has a new release date. See you guys at the movies on the 28th of May.” The film is produced by Jackky’s father Vashu Bhagnani.

A source close to the producer said that Vashu didn’t want to be eangaged in a battle of clashes as he feels that a clash never helped any film in 90 percent of the cases. The producer took this step a fortnight in advance instead of making any last minute decision, so that some more time is available for the film’s marketing and promotion, and results in a win-win situation for both the films.

Vashu has an experience of over two decades in the industry and knows well how it functions. He confirmed the news and said it won’t make much of a difference as ‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ was still a solo release. He added that the promo of the film was receiving fantastic response and the songs too were catching up well.

‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ is a political satire which deals with the adventures of two Indians who get caught into the web of Taliban after they mistakenly land up in Karachi, Pakistan.

Besides, Arshad and Jackky, the film also stars two renowned Pakistani actors Ayub Khoso and Adnan Shah. American dancing sensation Lauren Gottlieb, who has also done the dance based films ABCD and ABCD 2 by Remo D’Souza is also among the cast.
