Weekend collection: ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ inching towards 50 crore mark

Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma’s latest release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ is inching towards 50 crore mark. Opened with mixed reviews, the film has earned Rs 15.23 crore on its opening day.

On its second day, the film collected Rs 15 crore. And on Sunday it did not show any major bound and collected another Rs 16 crore (approx) on its third day of release, thus totaling to Rs 46.23 crore (approx) in the opening weekend.

Made on a promising budget of 80 crore, Imtiaz Ali’s directional venture got an extended weekend. Monday being Raksha Bandhan holiday, the cinema halls might see some rush than normal Mondays.

Bad reviews played a spoilsport on the film’s collection.

During a chat with indianexpress.com, trade analyst Girish Johar had said that he had been expecting as much as Rs 16 to Rs 17 crore on Friday.

“The expectations are quite high. I am expecting over Rs 16 to 17 crores on the opening day. I am expecting around Rs 60 crore or above over the weekend,” said film business expert Girish Johar.

“Worldwide I am not too sure but Shah Rukh Khan is very popular overseas. The craze is there and so I have huge expectations,” he added when we asked him about worldwide collections. Advance booking for the film had already started since Monday on online ticket booking platforms”.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted about the opening day collection of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’.

On day one, the film registered occupancy of 40-45% in the urban cities during the morning shows. The film has been released over 3200 screens. On multiplexes, the film registered a 25% occupancy rate.

‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ already earned Rs 25 crore from satellite and distribution rights. Made on a huge budget of Rs 90 crore, the film needs to cross the Rs 150-crore mark at the box office to be declared a hit.

The rom-com movie revolves around tourist guide Harinder Singh Nehra aka Harry (SRK), who finds love in Sejal (Anushka). Sejal on her tour to Europe lost her engagement ring and Harry helps her to find it.
