Watch: Shahrukh Khan’s Bangla speech charms Kolkataians


West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee welcomed Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, Sanjay Dutt and many others at the 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata.

“Bangla bolbo na eki kokhono hoye? ( How can I not speak Bengali),”  Shahrukh Khan said while addressing a crowd in Kolkata at the opening of Kolkata film fest. His tuta phuta Bengali is liked by the audience very much and they yelled in merry.

The actor also confessed that his Bengali is weak and today sure Jaya Aunty (Jaya Bachchan) would spank him.

In the beginning of his speech, SRK expressed his fears of speaking in Bengali, "I will get spanked by the end of the evening, hundred percent, by Jaya aunty for sure, because I promised you (Jaya Bachchan) I will speak in Bangla tonight, so I am going to give it a shot."

In his speech in Bengali, he confessed that he has made a lot of mistakes and it’s all his fault. “I hope you will forgive me for my mistake. Today I will speak in another language that’s the language of cinema. So please don’t laugh at me, I am getting there,” he said.

Shahrukh Khan ended his speech,saying, "Ami ageo bolechi, Kolkata amar praner sohor, Kolkata Film Festival amar praner utsob" (I have said this before, Kolkata is the city of my heart and Kolkata Film Festival, the festival of my heart).
