Watch: Radhika Apte as modern day Ahalya in Sujoy Ghosh’s short film

Here’s presenting Radhika Apte and noted Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee in Sujoy Ghosh’s beautiful venture ‘Ahalya’. Radhika Apte plays the title role ‘Ahalya’. The 14-minute film by Sujoy leaves one spellbound.

The short film is based on periodic epic Mahabharata and Ramayana and Sujoy told the story in a contemporary way. The film has a feminist touch. Speaking mythologically, ‘Ahalya’ is a young and beautiful mythical character married to the much older sage Gautama Maharishi who is turned into stone after God Indra seduced her. She was finally set free by Rama.

The Bengali-English film stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Radhika Apte and Tota Roy Chowdhury in the roles of Gautam, Ahalya and Indra. Radhika's speaks in both Bengali and English.

Talking about his film, director, Sujoy said, "The entire experience of making 'Ahalya' was very challenging yet interesting. For me, both Ramayan and Mahabharat are the greatest books ever and the unending wealth of stories in these two books is undisputed. The story of ' Ahalya' always remained with me because in my younger days I found it very funny what happened with Indra. The curse of Goutam Sadhu has always stayed in my mind but in an amusing way."

The movie was released by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films and is available on YouTube channel. The Badlapur actress says she was absolutely thrilled to work with director Sujoy Ghosh in this short film.
