Watch: CBFC chief goes back on his word on retaining ‘intercourse’ in JHMS

Pahlaj Nihalani, chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), had earlier agreed to pass the mini trail of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal' without removing the word ‘intercourse’ if one lakh votes were obtained in its favour. But Nihalani seems to have gone back on his own words.

Last month in an open challenge over a popular news channel, the CBFC chief had said, “You take voting from the public and I will clear the word (intercourse) on the promo and the film also. I want 1 lakh votes and I want to see that India has changed and Indian families want their 12-year-old kids to understand the meaning of this word (intercourse).”

The news channel, Mirror Now, after procuring over 1.2 lakh votes, sent its reported to Nihalani on Friday, to make him abide by his previous commitment. But the latter refused to make any comment and turned out the reported.

In a video released by the channel, Nihalani is seen visibly awkward and asking the reporter not to follow him. In spite of the reporter constantly asking him for a reaction saying, "The youth is with us. What do you have to say?" Nihalani gets to the furthest corner of the elevator, giving a deaf ear to the reporter. A ‘cornered’ Nihalani later gets out of the elevator without giving an answer.

"When I called him earlier this morning, for an appointment after we got the votes, he refused as well," the reporter, Himanshi Choudhary, was quoted as saying.

For the unversed, Nihalani took an objection to the word ‘intercourse’ in a dialogue in the mini trail titled ‘Indemnity Bond’ of Imtiaz Ali’s film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma.
