Golden Tweet of 2016: Virat Kholi slams haters for trolling Anushka
With the year 2016 coming to a close, social platform Twitter has released its annual report of top trends of the year. The micro-blogging site’s #YearOnTwitter has revealed that Virat Kholi’s tweet slamming twittaratis for trolling Anushka Sharma was the most-retweeted or the Golden Tweet of the year.
In March, Virat had lashed out at haters for trolling his girlfriend Anushka, with whom he was temporarily “on a break” at that time. The cricketer had posted a picture of the word ‘shame’ written on a wall and tweeted, “Shame on people for trolling @AnushkaSharma non-stop. Have some compassion. She has always only given me positivity.” This tweet dated March 28 went viral and was re-tweeted over 39,000 times and liked by 1,07,117 users.
Anushka was targeted for Virat’s dismal performance at the semi-final match of the 2015 ICC World Cup. Then reports of the couple’s troubled relationship surfaced earlier this year. In the meantime, Virat also got back into his form and played brilliantly at the ICC World T20 tournament and a section of Twitter users expressed their happiness over the couple’s break-up and called Anushka a negative influence in Virat’s life. This prompted the Indian Test captain to come out in support of his lady love.
