Viral video: Mahira Khan takes jibes at India and Bollywood

Pakistani actress Mahira Khan’s Bollywood debut ‘Raees’ opposite Shah Rukh Khan is set to hit screens in less than a month, and the actress is making news again, but for all the wrong reasons.

An old video of Mahira, apparently shot in 2011, has gone viral on the internet. In the video clip, the Pakistani beauty is seen taking digs at India and Bollywood during a chat show hosted by Pakistani comedian Omar Sharif. Mahira is seen saying, “Aapko India se inspire nahi hona chahiye. Bilkul nahi. Hum Bollywood nahi hain (You should not get inspired from India. Not at all. We are not Bollywood).”

After the terrorist strikes in Uri in September there has been protests against Pakistani artists working in India after which a ban was put on employing artistes from the neighbouring country. Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had even threatened to disrupt the release of the movies that were already shot with Pakistani actors, like ‘Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Dear Zindagi’ and upcoming ‘Raees’. Later, a settlement was reached and MNS allowed for the smooth release of the films, with the promise from makers that they will not hires Pakistanis in future.

Earlier this month, Shah Rukh, who is also the co-producer of ‘Raees’, met Raj Thackeray to ensure a hassle-free release for the crime drama, and assure the political leader that Mahira won’t be called for its promotional campaign.

But now with the latest development of the viral video, ‘Raees’ could land in fresh trouble and its box-office prospects might also get hampered.
