Vidya Balan not to appear in Suchitra Sen biopic

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, who was earlier reported to have signed a film on the life of Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, said she had loved the script but did not agree to the project as she felt she could not do justice to the celebrated artiste.

Raima and Riya Sen, grandchildren of the ‘Aandhi’ actress had previously mentioned about making a biopic of their grandmother. There were reports that Vidya would be essaying the role of the late actress and that she would be training in Kathak under Pt. Jayu Raman, as the celluloid queen was a popular dancer of her times.

“I was offered the biopic but I am not doing it. I was surprised that it came out in the media that I agreed to do it and have even started training in Kathak. I would have loved to do it. Loved to play her on-screen,” Vidya revealed in an interview to a news wire.

“I loved the script but I feel I have absolutely no physical resemblance with her. It is a Bengali film so I feel Raima Sen, her grand-daughter who looks like her, should be doing it,” the National Award winning actress said.

The ‘Kahaani’ actress also said, had the biopic been in Hindi, she might have considered the project. “If it was in Hindi then it was still ok as you can take certain liberties. But it is in Bengali.”

There were also rumours that the actress was doing a biopic on late Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, but Vidya denied the reports. “I was not offered this film. I don’t know where this news came from that I was offered this film.”

The actress revealed that she has signed two films, but said she could not divulge any details at this point.

Her upcoming film ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ by Mohit Suri will hit theatres on June 12. The film is her third project with Emraan Hashmi after they shared screen space in ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Ghanchakkar’.
