Veteran actress Sadhana passes away in Mumbai


Bollywood yesteryears actress Sadhana passed away in the morning. She had few medical complications and was reportedly admitted to the Hinduja hospital. She turned 74 in September.

The actress was battling cancer for a very long time and was off late detected with tumor. In December 2014, she underwent an emergency surgery for a bleeding oral lesion. A close family friend and BJP city spokesperson Shaina N.C. confirmed the news to IANS saying, "Sadhana breathed her last at her home this morning."

She was one of the most hit actresses of the 50s. She starred in many Bollywood blockbuster including Love in Paris, Ek Musafir Ek Hasina, Woh Kaun Thi?, Parakh, Mera Saaya, Ek Phool Do Mali (1969), Aap Aaye Bahar Aaye (1971), Dil Daulat Duniya (1972), Geeta Mera Naam (1974), Mera Saaya and the lost list goes on.

Born to a Sindhi family in 1941, Sadhana originally hails from Karachi in Pakistan and made her acting debut in a Sindhi movie Abana in 195. In her successful career, she acted with many noted actors and filmmakers of Bollywood including Manoj Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Joy Mukherjee, Dev Anand and many more. She got to work with Bomoy Roy, Raj Khosla, Yash Chopra. Ace choreographer Saroj Khan choreographed Sadhana in the popular song ‘Jhumka Gira Re’.

Apart from her her acting calibre, Sadhana was also a style icon. She was known for her trademark hair-cut a fringe on the forehead, which gained popularity as the "Sadhana cut." The trend of body fited Salwar Kameez was intiated by Sadhanaher her movie ‘Waqt’.

Sadhana was married to ‘Love in Shimla’ director R K Nayyar for almost thirty years. She is survived by her foster daughter.

Sadhana received the Lifetime Achievement Award from IIFA in 2002. Sadhana mainly confirmed to her house and hardly socialize. After a long hiatus, she was seen on the ramp for designer Saina NC and Vikram Phadnis. She was accompanied by Ranbir Kapoor
