Veteran actress Ava Mukherjee passes away at 88

TV and film’s favourite grandmom Ava Mukherjee breathed her last at 88. Ava is popularly known for playing Shahrukh Khan’s grandmother in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas’.

Ava Mukherjee rose to fame with commercials for the Himalaya Drug Company in the early 2000s. She forayed in acting with the Bengali film 'Ram Dhakka' in 1966. Her career took sprung with Sunhil Sippy’s 2000 film 'Snip!'.

She also starred in Satish Kaushik and Ram Gopal Varma-produced 2006 horror anthology, 'Darna Zaroori Hai', and was seen in the titular role in 'Detective Nani', a kiddie film directed by Mukherjee's daughter, Romilla. Before entering into the acting world, Mukherjee had worked as a copywriter, translator and writer.
