Varun Dhawan got drunk while shooting for HSKD

While mainstream Bollywood stars are often accused of overlooking actual acting in favor of showmanship, upcoming star Varun Dhawan may be adopting a different approach than his peers.  It has been revealed that recently the actor had tried a bit of method acting for his film ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’.

For an important scene in the film, Varun needed to look drunk. Varun decided to go realistic and consumed alcohol. It was director Sriram Raghavan who introduced Varun to the painful yet pleasurable path of method acting. Sources from the set informed that crew members had to support Varun as he stumbled around. The actor had been staying away from alcohol for a while and this sudden intake hit him quite hard.

Varun made Sriram Raghavan responsible for this unscheduled bit of method acting. Varun later described the entire incident. He said, "I finished shooting the first half of Sriram Raghavan's film when I came into the climax of 'Humpty...' So maybe I was a little more intense in my approach than I'd have been otherwise… There is a scene where I had to be drunk in the climax. It was shot at 4 a.m. I took a risk and actually consumed alcohol for the scene. Can you imagine, drinking at 4 a.m.? I hadn't had any alcohol for a while. It suddenly hit me and I was actually drunk… Yes, it was scary and it was a scene staring into Ashutosh Rana's big intimidating eyes. That scene is very precious to me.”

‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ released on 11th July and so far has earned good collections at the box office. The film and Varun’s performance both have received praises from critics. His screen presence and acting in the more serious scenes has caught the attention of the critics. For his last film, ‘Main Tera Hero’ too, Varun had received critical acclaim and is counted among the best young stars in Bollywood today.

The actor is now keen to try out more diverse roles. His film with Sriram Raghavan is called ‘Badlapur’ and it is said to be a dark revenge drama. The film has an ensemble cast with the other actors’ being- Yami Gautam, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Vinay Pathak.  Varun will be seen playing three roles including one of an old man. He will also be seen in the dance film, ‘ABCD 2’ alongside Shraddha Kapoor.
