Twitter goes abuzz as fans recall ‘Chalte Chalte’ on its 12th anniversary


Director Aziz Mirza’s remarkable film ‘Chalte Chalte’ which portrayed the bitter-sweet love story of Raj Mathur and Priya, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee respectively, has completed 12 years since its release.

The romantic film that released on June 13, 2003 was among the top grosser in box office that year and was also registered as the third biggest opening of a Bollywood film abroad then.

The crackling chemistry between Shah Rukh and Rani and some memorable songs made the film one of the unforgetable romantic films that can be watched and re-watched.

Twitter is abuzz with fans sharing their memories about the film on the micro blogging-site on its 12th anniversary. Many fan clubs expressed their opinions on why the film is so cherished.

‘Chalte Chalte’ is the love story of two extremely opposite personalities - Raj and Priya are as different as chalk and cheese. Raj is a carefree man who runs a small transport company. He is not rich but is always happy. Priya on the other hand is a successful fashion designer and belongs to a rich family.

The film though dwells on the hackneyed idea of a rich falling for a not-so-rich person emerged this successful due to its unique treatment and powerful performances by all the casts.

Raj and Priya get married but soon marital responsibilities and ego clashes take a toll on them and they separate but realise they cannot live without each other and eventually reunite. They again start arguing and quarrelling, but that is the way they express their love for each other.
