Here's why Salman Khan's Eid release 'Tubelight' a must watch

Salman Khan’s much-anticipated Eid release ‘Tubelight’ hit screens today. It is a war drama set in the backdrop of Indo-Sino War of 1962 and tells an emotional story of a man with special needs and his special bond with his brother. Salman plays the role of a simple and innocent Laxman Bhist, while his real-life brother Sohail Khan plays his on-screen brother Bharat Bhist who goes missing in action (MIA) during the war. The film is said to be an adaption of 2015 American movie ‘Little Boy’.

‘Tublight’ has remained in constant buzz ever since it went on floors in mid-2016 in Ladakh, and has generated a hype ahead of its screening. Even before its release, ‘Tubelight’ has been compared with S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2’ starring Prabhas, and Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ – two of the country’s biggest cinemas which shattered records worldwide.

Reportedly, ‘Tubelight’ will be screened at 4350 theatres across the country and will be getting the biggest ever release for a Bollywood film in the US, where it will be screened across 1200 screens, that's 100 more than ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’.

But the biggest reason to watch the movie is the superstar Salman Khan. Salman has an immense star power and has been a crowd puller, which also translates into the box-office success of his films. But over the years with his performance in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Sultan’, he has showcased his acting prowess and has won over the harshest of his critics. Salman’s role in ‘Tubelight’ is said to be his best performance till date. Director Kabir had even said that Salman’s performance in it is “five times better” than his act in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. However, it turns out that ‘Tubelight’ is also Salman’s shortest film with a runtime of 136.01 minutes. Producer Amar Batula of Salman Khan Films shared the censor board certificate on Twitter, which revealed the duration.

‘Tubelight’ is the third collaboration between the winning director-actor pair of Kabir Khan and Salman, who have earlier enthralled audience with the blockbusters ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. In the 2015 Eid release, child artiste Harshali Malhotra won the hearts of audience with her performance of a mute girl Munni/Shahida. ‘Tubelight’ also stars a cute boy – Matin Rey Tangu. The young actor has already floored everyone with his cuteness and innocent talks at the press meets, preview screening and the live interaction on Facebook ahead of the film’s release.

Another highlight of the film is Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the character of Goga Pasha. The role is pivotal as he plays an important part in re-establishing Laxman’s dwindling belief. He is like a magician who empowers Laxman and from there on Laxman’s belief and his self-confidence reaches another level, Salman had said revealing details of Shah Rukh’s character. The film will reunite Salman and Sharh Rukh on the big screen after a gap of 15 years. They last co-starred in 2002 movie ‘Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam’. The duo has also worked together in films like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Karan Arjun’.

‘Tubelight’ is also the swansong of veteran actor Om Puri, who passed away in January this year at the age of 66. It also stars Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, and she is the reason the makers are hoping for a ‘Dangal’-like response for Tubelight in the neighbouring country.
