‘Tridev’ actress Sonam marries again after divorcing Rajiv Rai

Yesteryear actress Sonam, who has starred in films like ‘Tridev’, ‘Vishwatma’, ‘Ajooba’ among others during the late 80s and early 90s, has tied the knot for the second time. The actress married businessman Murali Poduva on April 14 in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.

Sonam, whose real name is Bakhtavar Khan, met Murali, a divorcee, in Puducherry and love blossomed between them. He proposed her and she gave love another chance, and the duo married in a simple nikkah ceremony. The couple is currently honeymooning in Ooty.

Sonam has worked with some of the biggest Bollywood stars like Rishi Kapoor, Govinda, Dharmendra, and was known for her glamorous and bold image. She fluttered many a heart with her moves in popular songs like 'Tirchi Topiwale' and 'Dil Le Gayi Teri Bindiya. She got married to director Rajiv Rai, who had directed her in blockbusters like 'Tridev' and 'Vishwatma', at the peak of her career in 1991. The couple left the country after Rajiv was allegedly targeted by the underworld. They moved back to Mumbai some years ago and have been living separately. They got divorced by mutual consent last year. They have a son Gaurav Rai, who is now 23 years old.

Speaking about her second marriage, Sonam said, “I met Murali in Pondicherry and we became friends. He supported me during the course of my divorce and later we fell in love with each other. My son Gaurav is also very fond of him.”

The 44-year-old actress had quit Bollywood as her ex-husband was reportedly against his wife working in films. She is now looking forward to a comeback. “I have a few offers and I plan to do movies again. There are some projects which are under negotiation, so I will wait before talking about them,” Sonam was quoted as saying.
