Trailer: Salman Khan gives a gripping performance as wrestler in 'Sultan'

The trailer of Salman Khan starrer much-awaited film ‘Sultan’ is out. Yash Raj Films released the trailer on its official twitter handle on Tuesday evening (May 24). “Fight for redemption. Fight for love. Fight for glory. Watch Sultan's story unfold this Eid. #SultanTrailer,” YRF tweeted along with the link to the trailer.

‘Sultan’ is based on the life of Haryanvi wrestler Sultan Ali Khan Cheema whose character has been essayed by Salman. Anushka Sharma as wrestler Aarfa plays Sultan’s love interest, while Randeepa Hooda plays the role of a coach. Amit Sadh is also seen in the trailer.

The three-minute trailer opens with a quote credited to Sultan – ‘Wrestling is not a sport. It's about fighting what lies within’. The next scene opens in an ‘akhada’ and a beefy Salman makes his entry as Sultan and fights it out with his opponent to a cheering crowd. He sees Aarfa and immediately falls for her. Sultan aims to get an Olympics medal for the country, but the selectors don’t seem to have faith in the 40-year-old pot-bellied Sultan.

Salman has once again shown his potential as an actor after last year’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. He is impressive in his wrestling moves, he shows his funny side while impressing his ladylove Aarfa with his version of English, and shows his emotional side too when he faces rejection to play in the Olympics. His Haryanvi accent is also great.

The trailer also focusses on Anushka, but gives very less screen time to Randeep and Amit’s character.

Directed and written by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra, ‘Sultan’ will hit the theatres on Eid this July.
