Trailer: Rajkumar Rao’s 'Trapped' is a hair-raising survival drama

National Award-winning actor Rajkumar Rao will be next seen in Vikramaditya Motwane’s directorial ‘Trapped’, the trailer of which has been launched recently. The movie is one-of-a-kind survival drama about a man trapped inside his house endlessly for days without food, water and electricity.

The two-minute-long trailer opens with Rajkumar’s character Shaurya, who stays on the top floor of a high-rise, going out to receive someone, as the house is decorated with a ‘welcome’ sign. He has forgotten his cell-phone inside and when it rings, he quickly opens the door but leaves the key on the key-hole. As he is busy talking on the phone, a gush of wind shuts the door and he accidentally gets trapped inside.

The rest of the trailer is quite terrifying as it shows the protagonist’s frantic struggle to get out of the house, screaming, dropping his television set, making noise and even lighting a fire to gain the attention of the building’s watchman and other people, but in vain. He is also seen eating insects to keep himself alive. The trailer itself is so intriguing and gives the chills.

Rajkumar’s physical transformation is noticeable in the trailer and the acclaimed actor spoke about it at the trailer launch on Wednesday (Feb 22). "I was surviving on very little food. Probably coffee and carrot. But it was a great experience as an actor. This was something I always wanted to do. To get under the skin of the character I didn't eat properly and felt the frustration and anxiety of the character I play in the film,” the ‘Aligarh’ actor told reporters.

Vikramaditya Motwane, who made films like ‘Udaan’ and ‘Lootera’, said that he found the idea of a survival-thriller to be really ‘cool’. "I thought it was such a cool concept, why hasn't anyone thought about it before, why hasn't a film made on this topic especially in a city like Mumbai? We have high rises and all, the place is warm but is also so cold. As people, we can be unforgiving about these kinds of things. The idea just grabbed me. I kept thinking about the film," he said.

Trapped was screened at the 18th Jio MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival and received a standing ovation for exceptional performance by Rajkummar Rao.

The movie has been shot in Mumbai in just 22 days and is slated to hit screens on March 17.
