Trailer: Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ is all about girl-power

The trailer of Aamir Khan-starrer sports biopic ‘Dangal’ was released on Thursday. This time the superstar unveiled the trailer of his film on social media, rather than organising a media event, perhaps in order to avoid getting pulled into the ongoing Pakastani artiste ban row.

“Here goes...Tell me what you think. Love. a.” Aamir tweeted with the YouTube link of the trailer on the micro-blogging site.

Aamir essays the role of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, father and coach of India’s women wrestlers Geeta and Babita. Sakshi Tanwar plays the role of his wife in the film.

In the trailer Aamir’s wife is expecting their fourth child and he wishes for a son who can fulfil his dreams of bringing gold medal for the nation, but gets disappointed at the birth of another girl. Though he loves his daughters, he stashes away all his trophies, medals and awards in a box, as only a son can fulfil his wish. But then an incident happens and he realises the worth of his daughters, that ‘gold is gold, it doesn’t matter if a boy or girl earns laurels for the nation’.

The trailer also shows a glimpse of a younger version of Aamir in action with an opponent in the ring. All his efforts of bulking up and shedding weight for the role, has paid off. His Haryanvi dialect is also spot on. The trailer also contains a portion of the title track in the energetic vocals of Daler Mehendi.

Newcomers Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra play the roles of Geeta and Babita respectively. Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar play the younger versions of the girls.

Aamir’s last film was the blockbuster ‘PK’ which released in December, 2014. The superstar didn’t have any releases last year. ‘Dangal’, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is set to hit theatres on December 23.
