Top Bollywood news of 2014
The B town is a very happening place and is always buzzing with news. Here are the top news stories of 2014:
1. John Abraham got married to Priya in a hush hush wedding in USA in January and only announced his marriage in a New Year message in his Twitter account. He did not even hold a reception here which left his Bollywood buddies flummoxed.
2. In February, while Alia Bhatt became the new star of Bollywood because of her performance in ‘Highway’, almost every news was overshadowed by Anushka Sharma’s lips. Memes were going round comparing her lips to that of the Joker in Batman. Though the actress strenuously denied having cosmetic surgery, nobody believed it.
3. Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Queen’ was the leading news of the month of March. This movie got great word of mouth publicity and has given Kangana a far broader base in Bollywood.
4. At the same time, Sonam Kapoor sparked off a heated controversy with her unguarded remarks on the sets of ‘Koffee with Karan’, the chat show. She said, "If you're not good looking, they think you are a good actor. Just because you look ordinary and you talk loud doesn't mean you're a good actor." Many people took offence and Kangana pointed out that since she has been praised for her acting in ‘Queen’, she must be one of the ugliest persons in Bollywood.
5. The quiet wedding of Aditya Chopra with his long time girlfriend Rani Mukherjee in Italy created leading news in April.
6. May saw the rise of a new up and coming star in Bollywood. Tiger Shroff had to bear a number of jokes because of his name, but his debut ‘Heropanti’ was a hit and he ended up with several good offers.
7. The top news of June was the case filed by Priety Zinta against Ness Wadia. She accused him of manhandling her and using abusive language during an IPL match.
8. When the photographers were manhandled by the bodyguards of Salman Khan during a promo of ‘Kick’ in July, the paparazzi decided to ban the actor. It was only lifted after the actor sent them an invitation to his sister’s wedding.
9.The nude poster of Aamir Khan from ‘PK’ was released in August and triggered a storm of controversy though the Supreme Court rejected the petition to ban the film.
10. The divorce of Hrithik and Suzanne broke many hearts in December.
