Kaun Banega Crorepati was launched as a television game show in India in 2000, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. This show marked his first appearance on Indian television. The show was suddenly discontinued by STAR Plus while Amitabh Bachchan became ill in 2006. The season 4 was again hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. The fourth season of the game show saw tremendous success owing to the comeback of the former host Amitabh Bachhan. The last and the fifth season began on 15 August in 2011 in the same design and again ended on 17 November 2011.  The show bagged Indian of the Year- Entertainment awards from the CNN IBN Team KBC and Amitabh Bachan.

Just Dance was launched as a Indian television dance-reality series on the channel Star Plus. The series was co-adjudicated by the celebrity Bollywood actor Hritik Roshan. On every elimination date Hrithik Roshan handed over a cheque of 3 Lakhs to the eliminated participant from his own account. Hrithik Roshan was known to start his television career from this show. He was paid 1.75 crore rupees every episode and it made him the most paid Bollywood actor in the world television entertainment. The show received the highest TRP of 4.7 as a reality show in 2011. Apart from this, the show bagged the award of best reality show at the Indian Television Academy Awards.

In Bigg Boss 5, Sanjay Dutt was the host and Salman Khan hosted the starting episode, the special episode on Diwali and some elimination episodes together with Sanjay Dutt post which the latter became the permanent host of the season. During the start of the show, fourteen selected people started living the house situated in Karjat, a city in Maharashtra. Starting from May 2011, media reports stated that Salman Khan would be hosting Bigg Boss 5. In July, it was declared that Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt will be co-hosting the show.

After her film career seemed almost over, in 2011, gorgeous Preity Zinta tested her luck in the television industry by co-hosting the show Guinness World Records — Ab India Todega. This is a reality show on TV based upon the Guinness Book of World Records. At that time there was an audience measurement of rating points up to 3.3. Every episode brought people attempting to break the official world records. An official Guinness World Records judge, Kristian Teufel used to be present and he took the final decision on the record. This show occupied the 7th rank on the list of celebrity-hosted reality shows on Hindi channels.
