The genre of thriller movies have always kept the Hindi cine goers enthralled. Over the years Bollywood has produced some such memorable films that have achieved iconic cult following.

Woh Kaun Thi

In the good old days when a film was yet to see the colours the film Woh Kaun Thi (1964) was directed by Raj Khosla. The success of this thriller made the director create two more thrillers like Mera Saaya and Anita. Doctor Anand encounters a beautiful lady (Sadhna) who behaves mysteriously, a little later an old man takes Anand(Manoj Kumar) to his house to treat his already dead daughter who apparently is the same woman he helped a while ago and finally his mom arranges a marriage with a living lady who too is this mysterious woman. The audience is captivated to the seat from the very first scene of this thriller. Songs like “Naine Barse Rimjhim” composed by Madan Mohan adds to the flavour.

To really appreciate the mystery film one needs to read the Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians. Vijay Anand casts Manoj Kumar and Nanda to play the lead role of this mystery film. With a Villain like Pran and dancer like Helen who too is murdered in this film it is difficult to blink your eyes as the story deepens after every fresh murder. Songs by Shankar Jaikishan, the killer and his victims along with the dramatic sound of the word “Nahiin”keeps one wanting to see more of the thriller. Songs like Gumnaam Hai Koi may be used as nerve coolers but they too take us to mysterious back drops. One of the best mysteries of the Hindi Film Society, it creates total confusion and thrills the audience.

Anamika the 1973 suspense film directed by Raghunath Jalani has the flavour of romance in it too. With a strong star cast like Sanjeev Kumar a writer and the unknown woman who comes into his life as Anamika played by Jaya Bhaduri the director keeps the audience guessing all the time. The unknown lady her pranks and the uneasiness of our hero are all smoothened out by the music of RD Burman and the voices of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Songs like Bahon Mein Chale Aao will never be erased from a film lover’s memory and neither the soft thrilling story be forgotten as just another thriller.

Jewel Theif

The Jewel Thief is yet another thriller successfully directed by the maker of Teesri Manzil. Holding on to the suspense and mesmerizing the audience which was the intention of Jewel Thief was maintained through out the film. The Actors like Dev Anand, Vyjantimala, Ashok Kumar, Nasir Khan and Helen left no table unturned to give the film the desired success as a thriller. Songs like Honton pe aisi baat will be the unforgettable song which adds to the suspense of the film.

Hamraaz another thriller directed by BR Chopra stars actors like Sunil Dutt, Raj Kumar, Mumtaz, Sarika, Helen, Vimi and Madan Puri. The Sahir Ludhianvi Lyrics adds to the mesmerizing sequences of the film. The famous actor Kumar (Sunil Dutt) falls in love with Vimi in the backdrop of Darjeeling. Soon he looses her as she is murdered. Endorsing a dual role he tries to catch the murderer and in the process becomes the suspect.
