‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ to air on Sony TV from Apr 23

‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ is a passé. Popular stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma is back with a new show which is now called ‘The Kapil Sharma show’ to be aired on Sony TV. The funny man launched the new show today much to the relief of his fans who were desperately waiting to see him back on television.

His team mates form the old show - Kiku Sharda, Sunil Grover, Sumona Chakravarty, Ali Asgar and Chandan Prabhakar are also a part of the show and will be seen in a new avatar. Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is also back. However, Upasana Singh, who played the role of ‘Bua’ has stayed back with Colors.

Kapil’s show on Colors was replaced by the rival show ‘Comedy Nights Live’. In its very first episode, host Krushna Abhishek took digs on Kapil. During the launch when Kapil was asked to comment about it, the comedian-actor in his trademark wit replied, “I want to entertain everyone. We will not retaliate by taking digs at Krushna. This is not my idea of entertainment.”

Regarding the title of the show which is named after the comedian, Sony TV CEO, NP Singh said, “We conducted an extensive survey where we spoke to people from different regions and the only thing they wanted to know was, 'Kapil Sharma ka naya show kab aa raha? When is the Kapil Sharma show starting?' That's when we decided this name will connect with the audiences instantly and it also will make the most impact."

Kapil is leaving no stone unturned to make his show a success as the channel has shown immense faith on him.

The new show comes with a new concept. Unlike ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’, alongside celebrity guests, common man can also take part in the show by sending videos to the channel for selection.

However, due to copyright issues with Colors, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ will not be able to use the trademark punch-line ‘Babaji ka thullu’ or name its characters ‘Gutthi’, ‘Palak’ and won’t even have the ‘Bakri’.

Bollywood actors Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be the first celebrity guests on the show. They will be promoting their film ‘Ki and Ka’ by R. Balki. The duo has reportedly shot for the promo on 18th February, but Kapil wasn’t a part of the shoot as the channel wanted to generate curiosity about his new avatar.

‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ will go on air from April 23, every Saturday and Sunday at 9.00 pm.
