Excitement builds up as 'Cocktail' is due to release on Friday

The Deepika and Saif Ali Khan starrer Cocktail is all set to release this weekend. If the public response is any indication of the things to come then we can safely predict that the movie is set to be the biggest grosser of the year. With all the positive vibes about the film doing the rounds, a visibly pleased Saif stated "The film is out of hands now". Film critics and all the people associated with the project will keep their fingers crossed on 13th July.

It is an interest piece of information that the actress Deepika Padukone was first to be brought on the project, even before the director was finalized. She was given the option to select the role of Veronica, a modern uptown girl or Meera the unassuming desi girl. She chose to portray Veronica as she felt it was a more challenging role. Later on the director Homi Adajania was selected for the project on recommendation from Dinesh Vijan. Reminiscing about his selection Homi stated, "I thought it was bizarre that Dinoo wanted me to direct it. It wasn't my comfort zone. Maybe that's why he was sure I'd have a fresh take on it." The fans sure love the freshness of the romantic comedy in the trailers.

‘Cocktail’ is all about different shades of friendship between three people and the changing dynamics of their relation. Nothing more could be learnt about the story line of the movie. The director too was tight lipped about the plot of ‘Cocktail’. However he was quite enthusiastic to quote about the performance of the actors in the movie. "I don't think Saif has any method. He is very instinctive and natural. He understands you instantly and nails it in the first take. Even in the intense scenes, he switches on the moment the camera is on and after 'cut', he's back to being himself. He's effortless in bringing that sincerity to his characters - I saw it in "Being Cyrus", and now I saw it in "Cocktail" too."

Homi is all praises for Deepika and considers her performance in the movie a s her best ever. Homi quotes about Deepika "She is very restrained when required, and perfectly pitched even in highly emotional scenes. Credit goes to her for working hard on her character of Veronica." The director added about the debutant Diana Penty's performance, "Initially, she may not show many emotions, but she's quite intense in the second half."

It is interesting to note that the names considered for the movie title were "Yaariyan", "Love Aaj Kal 2" and "Jawaani Janeman". The name ‘Cocktail’ was given to the story by writer Imtiaz. Commenting on the process of finalizing the film name, Saif stated "Throughout the shoot, it was called 'Production No. 3'. During post-production, "Yaariyan" became a favourite song, making it a preferred choice. But the title "Cocktail" persistently kept rearing its head and somehow in the end it just felt like the right choice". It seemed the name ‘Cocktail’ was too Western but doubts were laid to rest as the team realized that even villagers understood the meaning of the word ‘Cocktail’ to be a mix.

With all the hypes and interesting stories surrounding ‘Cocktail’ we guess it will be a treat to watch at the multiplexes. This might be the biggest opener in the career of Deepika and Saif. We can’t feel anything less but envious about the beautiful new comer Diana Penty's, it is a dream debut. All roads to will lead to  ‘Cocktail’ this weekend even if you are not thirsty.
