Tanvi Azmi to play Ranveer’s mother in ‘Bajirao Mastani’
Tanvi Azmi has been signed to play Ranveer Singh’s mother Radhabai in ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has chosen Tanvi Azmi over Shabana Azmi. Several names like Shabana Azmi, Dimple Kapadia and Supriya Pathak were tabled but Bhansali roped in Tanzi Azmi as he feels she will only able to do justice to the role.
About casting Tanvi Azmi, a source from the ‘Bajirao Mastani’
team revealed, "Supriyaji was out because Bhansali had already
worked his magic on her talent in Ram-Leela. Getting Ranveer Singh,
Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Surpriya Pathak together again in Bajirao
after Ram-Leela would have been too much of an instant replay."
Tanvi had to go through a compatibility test with Ranveer Singh before signing
the project to see whether they looked like mother and son. The two complimented each other.
‘Bajirao Mastani’, featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will go on board very soon. Ranveer will go bald for the film. Priyanka Chopra will play Ranveer’s wife. ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is based on great Maratha emperor Peshwa Bajirao and his second wife Mastani. Deepika will play Mastani and Priyanka will play Ranveer’s first wife Kashibai.
Ranveer will learn Marathi and will
reportedly go bald for the role.
“Preparations for 'Bajirao Mastani' is very intense. I will have to learn
Marathi, horse riding, pick up the accent and do a lot of work for the
character. I will have to shave off my hair, work on my look and the physical
aspect,” Ranveer was earlier quoted as saying by PTI.
The shooting of the film will start from October. Bhansali who is known to put
on lots of pressure on his actors to bring out the best out of them is working
on the pre-production work of the gigantic project.
