‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ earns 8.75 crore on its opening day


The sequel to 2011 superhit movie, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ earns 8.75 crore on its opening day, thanks to the positive words of mouth. Though opened with rave reviews, it is word of mouth which pulled maximum audience to the theatre.Made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, the sequel made Rs 19.9 lakh in Australia, Rs 3.5 lakh in New Zealand and Rs 34 lakh in England. The film earned Rs 1.5 crore in the US.

Word of mouth also worked magical for ‘Piku’. The film earned Rs 5.32 crore on the opening day but now it has crossed 66 crore and marching towards 100 crore club. The film is still going strong in many circuits in India. Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Roy’ had a promising opening with 10.40 crore but it lost its impetus in the mid-way and the film ended with a disaster. ‘Gabbar Is Back’ sparked magical at the box office. Opened with 13.05 crore, the film earned Rs 82.31 cr lifetime business and still counting at the Box Office.

Kangana Ranaut’s performance in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ was highly applauded. The film also starring R Madhavan in the male lead is about is about mismatch in a love marriage. Kangana plays a double role in the movie, reviving the role of Tanuja Trivedi as well as her look-alike Datto, a Haryanvi student studying in the Delhi University. The film also stars Swara Bhaskar, Eijaz Khan and Rajesh Sharma in pivotal roles.
