‘Runningshaadi.com’ title changed after matrimonial site objects

The title of Taapsee Pannu and Amit Sadh starrer romantic comedy ‘Runningshaadi.com’ has dropped the last few letters from the title. The movie is now called ‘Running Shaadi’. The film’s title was changed after popular matrimonial website Shaadi.com objected to its name being used in it.

Just a week ahead of the film’s release, the website filed a case against the Shoojit Sircar production, alleging that since the film’s story is about a website that helps couples to elope and get married, the might believe it to be a real story of the matrimonial site. The owners claimed that it could damage the company’s brand image.

Soojit has agreed to change the title and drop all references of the matrimonial website from the film as well as all publicity material. “It all happened last night. If they (filmmakers) wouldn’t have agreed to cut the scenes or references of ‘Shaadi.com’ from the film, the matrimonial site might have demanded Rs 30-40 lakhs as compensation. Also, the makers are going to edit the parts that have a mention of the website,” a source confirmed to The Indian Express.

“As actors, we can’t really do much about it, but the name change wouldn’t really affect the film,” Taapsee said. Amit added, “Indians have complex issues. They keep looking for aspects to change something or the other. Be it ‘Runningshaadi.com’ or ‘Running Shaadi’, the public will land up in cinema halls and enjoy the film.”

Diricted by Amit Roy, ‘Running Shaadi’ is set to hit theatres on February 17.
