Mahesh Babu's loss is Suriya's gain

In the world of films, one’s loss is often another’s gain. A similar thing recently took place in the Telugu film industry. When Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu declined to act in director Vikram Kumar’s next ambitious project, the mantle was reportedly taken up by another star of the southern industry, Suriya.

Vikram Kumar who recently directed the super hit film, ‘Manam’, has been working on his new project. The yet to be titled project will require the male lead play three different characters. For the roles, Vikram Kumar approached Mahesh Babu who recently completed his 15 years in the Tollywood industry.

Industry sources have claimed that though Mahesh Babu liked the romantic script, he was apprehensive about the triple roles. One of the roles needed him to look older and the actor felt that it may not suit him.  Finally he decided not to take up the project. But shortly after this news began circulating that Tamil star Suriya who is known to pull off variety of roles has been offered the project.  The rumors became stronger with Vikram Kumar attending the music launch of Suriya’s film ‘Anjaan’.

The news has now been verified with Suriya’s production house 2D entertainment confirming that the ‘Singam’ actor will be working in the project. A source close to the actor has revealed, “Vikram recently met Suriya and narrated the script. He liked it and agreed to work on it after he completes Venkat Prabhu’s film, to which he had committed earlier. He will commence shoot for Venkat’s film, which is likely to impress kids, by the end of this month.”

It has been five years since Vikram Kumar worked in the Tamil film industry. Now with Suriya’s involvement, the film will be bilingual, in Telugu and Tamil. Vikram Kumar also earned some recognition in Bollywood with the horror film ‘13B’. On the other hand Suriya has recently expressed his desire to work in a straight Telugu film for his fans in the state. At present however, he has his hands full with the Venkat Prabhu directed film ‘Masss’. In the film he will be seen with two leading ladies, Nayanthara and Amy Jackson. He is also involved with Pandiraj’s next film as producer. While industry rumors suggested that he will also act in the film with Jyothika. The actor has not confirmed anything. He said, “I liked Pandiraj’s idea and wanted to produce it. I am yet to take a call on acting in it. It is too early to say anything now.”
