Stunt tragedy: Rishi Kapoor, others mourn death of Kannada actors

The unfortunate death of budding actor Raghava Uday and stuntman Anil while shooting an action sequence for Kannada film ‘Maasti Gudi’ on Monday (Nov 7), has shocked the entire film industry.

Even as massive search operation is on to recover the bodies of the duo, members of regional cinema as well as Bollywood have expressed anguish and shock over the incident, while mourning the death of Uday and Anil.

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor condoled the deaths with a word of advice for the filmmakers. “RIP.Two stuntmen drown whilst filming a stunt from a chopper in a Kannada film. When VFX facilities available, then why endanger human lives?” he tweeted.

Kannada filmmaker-actor Upendra wrote, “Shocked to hear the demise of my dear brothers Anil and Uday. Most unfortunate incident. RIP.” In another post, he added, “With unforgettable bitterness of your demise taught the whole industry a lesson about the safety, planning and respect for life in shooting... Anil and Uday taught all aspirants that life is more important than achievements.”

Actress and politician Ramya deplored the negligence while shooting and rtweeted, “Regardless of whether you are the lead actor or not, every crew member must be safeguarded- The Kannada film industry must make it a rule.”

“It was like a death in the Family. It’s totally depressing and Shocking. R.I.P. Deepest Condolences to #RaghavaUday & #Anil Families,” actor Darshan Thoogudeepa tweeted.

Film and television actress Parul Yadav, expressed sadness over the tragic demise in a series of tweets. She wrote, “Kannada actors Anil and Uday breathed their last due to disregard for safety on #Mastigudi sets! Aren't stunt choreographers responsible?”

"Wish people understood the value of human life. Praying that the families of these actors have enough strength for this.. #shocked," she added.

Actor Kichcha Sudeep tweeted, “Very upsetting to hear that demise of #anil&uday.. Anil worked wth me in Hebbuli..Silent n a very hard worker.. really sad. RIP.”

Uday and Anil were shooting for the climax scene of the Nagashekar directorial starring Duniya Vijay. Both of them, along with Vijay jumped off a helicopter from a height of over 60 feet, into the Thippagondanahalli reservoir near Bengaluru, yesterday afternoon.

Vijay, who was provided with a life jacket, swam back to safety, but Anil and Uday could not make it and drowned. It is said that the two were not expert swimmers and were also not given life jackets. The tragedy reportedly happened due to lack of adequate safety measures.
