Sridevi and Anil Kapoor to reunite on screen for Mr. India sequel

Reports of a sequel to Sridevi and Anil Kapoor starrer iconic film ‘Mr India’ have been doing that rounds for some time, and a latest report in Deccan Chronicle suggests that the makers are indeed planning to recreate the magic of the 1987 cult sci-fi by Shekhar Kapur.

Sridevi is currently busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Mom’, while Anil Kapoor is also gearing up for his laugh-riot ‘Mubarakan’. The duo will reunite for ‘Mr. India 2’ under a new director, while Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor will be producing it. Anil Kapoor and Sridevi will reprise their roles of Arun Verma and Seema Sahni, while another young pair will be roped in for pivotal roles.

“The idea is to take the story forward, but not just for the heck of it. We wanted a solid plot, and we have got it,” the daily quoted a source close to the development.

Even Boney Kapoor has expressed his keenness to make a sequel to ‘Mr India’ which recently clocked 30 years of its release. He was quoted by a daily as saying, “I would love to make Mr India 2. I am itching to make a few more films like Mr.India, Wanted and No Entry.”

While a director and other cast for the film are yet to be finalised, the report mentioned Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and ‘Mom’ director Ravi Udyawar as the top contenders to helm the film.

‘Mr India’ was an iconic film in which Anil’s character becomes a superhero overnight after finding a device invented by his scientist father that is capable of making a person invisible. Late actor Amrish Puri’s act of the dreaded megalomaniac Mogambo and his dialogue ‘Mogambo khush hua’ is unforgettable, so is Sridevi’s ‘Ms Hawa Hawaii’.
