Malayalam film actress Dhanya Mary Varghese arrested for fraud
Malayalam film actress Dhanya Mary Varghese, along with her husband John Jacob and brother-in-law Samuel Jacob, have been arrested on charges of fraud. They were taken into custody in Tamil Nadu’s Nagercoil on Friday, December 16, police said. They will be presented before the magistrate soon.
Investors of real estate firm Samson and Sons Builders and Developers Pvt Ltd, owned by Dhanya’s husband’s family, have accused the trio of cheating to the tune of Rs 130 crore. Dhanya's father-in-law Jacob Samson, who is the chairman of the company, was arrested earlier in the same case. According to police complaints, the accused had cheated many people by receiving a huge sum of money from them in 2011, promising to construct 500 flats and 20 villas within two years. They collected Rs 100 crore as advance payments and another Rs 30 crore as deposits promising high rates of interest, police said.
However, they failed to deliver the promised flats, and several people filed complaints with the police.

She is also a recipient of Kerala Film Critics' television Best Actress Award in 2012 for her performance in the serial ‘Daivatinte Swatham Devooty’.
