Sonam on Aishwarya’s purple lips: She wanted to be “talked about”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s ‘purple lips’ during the screening of ‘Sarabjit’ in the recently concluded 69th Cannes Film Festival became a talking point. The former Miss World has maintained that she is unfazed with all the negative remarks saying that she treats fashion like an art and doesn’t stress about how she looks.

However, Sonam Kapoor, regarded as a ‘fashion icon’ of Bollywood, thinks that Aishwarya wanted to be “talked about” and therefore, opted for the purple lip colour.

When Sonam was asked about her opinion about the senior actress’ purple lips, she said Aishwarya should be happy with the attention she got.

"The whole idea of fashion and make-up is for people to discuss it and I guess she wanted to be discussed. She achieved what she wanted to achieve with it, which I think is great," the ‘Neerja’ actress told PTI.

Aishwarya had said that her make-up was the decision of cosmetic brand L’Oreal that she represents at the event. But Sonam replied, “I don't think she walked for L'Oreal that day. There was an Amul ad on it, people were discussing it. I think it was great to do it on a 15th year, it's cool. She was trending everywhere."

The 30-year-old actress who felt that the ‘Sarabjit’ actress carried off the look with “aplomb”, was asked if she would ever try a shade like that on herself. To this, she replied, "I have done purple lipstick in the past, I have even done black for a shoot... People haven't spoken about me!"

Sonam is also a brand ambassador of the cosmetic giant, along with Aishwarya. It was Sonam’s sixth year at Cannes. Interestingly, when Sonam was appointed that face of L’Oreal some years back, she had taken a dig at her senior actress saying, “Aishwarya is an aunty from another generation.” However, she made up with Aishwarya earlier this year by wishing and congratulating the latter on her completion of 15 years at Cannes.
