Sonam Kapoor to attend amfAR Gala; Aishwarya to give it a miss

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor will attend the amfAR Gala at the ongoing 69th Cannes Film Festival. It will be her first appearance at the prestigious 'Cinema Against AIDS' fundraiser and the ‘Neerja’ actress is honoured to be a part of the charity event.

The amfAR is an AIDS benefit programme and the Cannes 'Cinema Against AIDS' gala is scheduled to be held on May 19.

"It's an honour to be a part of the esteemed amfAR gala. I cannot stress enough the importance of AIDS research in our time. This foundation is doing such incredible work dedicated towards raising funds for life-saving research programs that help the fight against AIDS. I am looking forward to meeting the wonderful team that chairs amfAR and hope to contribute to this cause in every way possible," Sonam said in a statement.

Sonam will be rubbing shoulders with the best of the best of fashion and world cinema like Helen Mirren, Sharon Stone, Katy Perry, Kenneth Cole, Lewis Hamilton, Isabeli Fontana, Barbara Palvin and Irina Shayk.

The Cannes Film Festival started on May 11 and will go on till May 22. The Bollywood fashion icon, who represents L’Oreal at the event, will walk the red carpet on May 15 and 16 as a brand ambassador of the cosmetic giant.

Sonam, who began her Cannes journey in 2011, will be completing six years of attending the prestigious event this year.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who has been a regular at the 'Cinema Against AIDS' fundraiser, will be giving it a miss this year as she will be busy with her upcoming film ‘Sarabjit’ which is releasing on May 20.

Aishwarya will walk the red carpet on May 13 and 14 as L’Oreal brand ambassador. It will be her fifteenth visit at the Cannes Film Festival.
