Sonakshi to star with Pa Shatrughan in AR Murugadoss's next

It has been reported that Sonakshi Sinha would be sharing the screen space with Shatrughan Sinha in an upcoming film. The father and daughter would be seen in a Hindi film directed by AR Murugadoss. The two shall be playing prominent roles in this film. This Fox Star production is untitled as yet.

AR Murugadoss stepped into the filmy world with the 2001 Tamil film ‘Dheena’. He directed the film and penned the script as well. It was mix of genres and did well at the box office, thus kick starting AR Murugadoss’s career as a director. Murugadoss delivered yet another hit in 2002. ‘Ramana’ went on to win Tamil Nadu State Film Award in the category of Best Dialogue Writer. ‘Ramana’ inspired Telugu and Kannada versions in 2003 and 2005 respectively. Now another remake is still to follow, that is Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gabbar Is Back’. In 2005, AR Murugadoss made the famous psychological thriller ‘Gajini’ starring Surya and he tasted success once again. This film was made into Aamir’s ‘Gajini’ in 2008.

But these aren’t the only instances where the ace director has inspired others. He proved his unmatched directorial skills with the super hit ‘Thuppaki’. This one starred Vijay and proved a huge box office success. In 12 days alone, the film grossed a whopping Rs 100 crore! It became one of the fastest films to enter the 100 crore club. Looking at such incredible success, the Hindi film industry followed the footsteps of ‘Thuppaki’ and remade it in Hindi. It was titled ‘Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty’ and Akshay Kumar won overwhelmingly positive reviews for it. This one too, was quick to cross the 100 crore mark.

While AR Murugadoss is no doubt a brilliant filmmaker, it is apparent how his films are hero centric. His ‘Kaththi’ was a Vijay starrer and the director focused mainly on the actor, giving comparatively very less chance to the actress. Samantha was the one to be selected for the female lead and the screen featured her far less as compared to the actor. Similar fondness for the male character has been seen in Murugadoss’s ‘Thuppaki’ inspired ‘Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty’ starring Akshay Kuamar and Sonakshi Sinha. The center of the film was no doubt Akshay. It would be interesting to see whether in the upcoming film, the director features Sonakshi in a prominent role, or this film too is going to be hero centric.
