‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor Madhur Mittal recuperating after a car accident

Actor Madhur Mittal who played the role of Salim in Freida Pinto and Dev Patel starrer film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, was severely injured in a car crash. The actor was driving the car when he accidentally banged the vehicle into a stationary truck at Dahisar while trying to overtake it.

Madhur was immediately rushed to the hospital by his friends who were also in the car but fortunately escaped unhurt. He was kept in the ICU and remained unconscious for 10 days. Multiple surgeries were conducted upon him to fix his broken jaw, teeth, arm and clots in the brain.

The actor has been now discharged from the hospital with the advice to rest for the next few months. The accident happened earlier in June but the news was revealed now only.

Following the jaw operation, the actor was barely able to speak but managed to tell a leading daily, “God has given me a second life. It was a narrow escape. I want to send out a message to the youth to wear seat belts, come what may. It could have saved me from what I went through. 70% of my face has been damaged but the swelling will eventually reduce. I am not allowed to talk much either. Hopefully, I shall be fine by November, as I need to attend a workshop and a film festival in Mexico.”

Madhur’s co-actors from the Danny Boyle film Dev Patel called up the actor’s family upon learning about the accident, while Anil Kapoor sent a message wishing him speedy recovery.

Madhur had also worked in the Hollywood film Million Dollar Arm.
