‘Singh Saab The Great’ beats ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’

Two movies viz. ‘Singh Saab The Great’ and ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ were released on the last Friday. It was expected that Imraan Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer romantic comedy ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ will do good business. It was also talked that Sunny Deol’s ‘Singh Saab The Great’ was like any other over the top action movie and will see less action at the ticket counter. Though both the movies got a tepid response at the box office, surprisingly, audience opted for action flick more than romantic film.

‘Singh Saab The Great’ collected 18.5 crores at the box office over the weekend leaving ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ far behind at 9.50 crores. There was a huge difference between the weekend collections of both these movies. Well, it will be interesting to watch which movie pulls crowd over the week.

‘Singh Saab The Great’ is about a common man who takes pride in his honesty. He fights evil. With his thunderous performance, Sunny Deol definitely managed to pull crowd though he is heading towards 60’s. He has the same charm and same anger as was seen many years back in ‘Gadar:Ek Prem Katha’. With lots of action sequences of good fighting evil, this movie is like any action flick.

‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ (GTPM) is a romantic comedy. The story is nothing new. This is the second time that Kareena and Imran are acting together. The story is about a rich South Indian guy who falls for a social worker who works in villages and to get her love, the guy comes to stay in poor village. Together they accomplish a mammoth task of the village.

About the performance of his movie on box office, Sunny says, “I am my biggest critic. I know best where I am right and wrong. At times you will not see me happy when people say, ‘Wow, what a shot’. I feel, ‘What was this, I didn't deliver what I want to’.”

Noted film critic Taran Adarsh said, “SINGH SAAB THE GREAT is atypical Sunny Deol film that a section of the audience still enjoys. The clapworthy dialogue, the raw appeal, the undercurrent of emotions and of course, the dhaai kilo ka haath should appeal to those who relish desi fares, especially the single screen audience.”

A critic said about GTPM, “Generally speaking, ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ is a clean, light hearted and fun film but don’t go to watch it keeping your expectations too high. If you are sucker for Rom-Coms, especially the Karan Johar kinds, and if you have not watched a film in a long while, then chances are you might enjoy it.”
