Singer-composer Shan Johnson found dead in her flat
Young singer and composer Shan
Johnson was found dead at her flat at Kodambakkam on Friday afternoon. She
was 29. Police suspected it a case of suicide but they are waiting for the
autopsy report which will confirm the cause of her death.
The singer lived in a second-floor flat in an apartment complex on Chakrapani
Street, Kodambakkam. Investigators said that Shan had returned to her flat at 8.30pm on Thursday
after visiting her aunt Gisha in Mylapore and she was scheduled
to fly to Kochi for another assignment on Friday morning.
Shan’s mother made repeated calls to her daughter but when she failed to contact with her, she rushed to Shan’s flat and found her dead.
The two stay in different locality in the city.
Policemen arrived at the flat at around 1pm and found Shan lying horizontally on a bed.
No suicide note was found. The body was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital where doctors will perform the autopsy today. The Ashok Nagar police have registered a case under CrPC Section 174 (suspicious death).
Shan, a trained Carnatic and western musician, had rendered songs for movies like ‘Engeyayum Eppothdum’ and ‘Paravai’ (bothTamil), ‘Praise the Lord’ and “Thira” (Malayalam), among others.
She had also composed music for a Malayalam film “His Name is John.”
Shan is the daughter of late Johnson, fondly known as Johnson Master, who was a renowned and respected music composer in Malayalam film industry.
He passed away after suffering a heart attack on August 18, 2011 at the age of 58. In February, 2012 his son Renn Johnson (23) was killed in a motorbike accident.
