Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya accused of molestation

Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who has been making news recently for all the wrong reasons, is in the spotlight again for allegedly molesting a woman during Durga Puja celebrations.

The 34-year-old woman has filed a police complaint in which she has accused the singer of touching her inappropriately and abusing and threatening her during a concert of singer Kailash Kher on Thursday night.

The incident happened at around 10 PM last night at the Lokhandwala Durga Puja Mandal of which Abhijeet is one of the organisers. The woman in her report claimed that she had warned the singer to take his hand off her, but when she protested he asked the women volunteers to take her away and threatened her.

The woman then went to the Oshiwara police station and lodged an FIR against the singer. Police has registered a case of molestation under Section 354 A (Molestation) 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Police will first record statements of witnesses before taking any action.

Abhijeet has however, denied the charges and said he only had an argument with the woman. He says he had asked her to move or be seated as she was blocking everyone's view.

Abhijeet who sang several hit songs like ‘Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein’ (Dhadkan), ‘Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon’ (Yes Boss), ‘Tauba Tumhare Ishare’ (Chalte Chalte) etc., has been lately making news for his controversial statements in Salman Khan’s 2002 hit-and-run case and calling Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali ‘Dengue Artiste’ and ‘Paki Dalal’.
