Siddharth Mallya wants to play Priyanka’s lover in ‘Quantico’

Priyanka Chopra's performance in her first American drama series ‘Quantico’, as seen in the trailer, has garnered rave reviews from her friends, family, colleagues and fans, on the social media. She plays FBI agent Alex Parrish in the show.

The three-minute trailer showcases her journey as a fresh recruit at Quantico to being the suspect behind a terrorist attack in New York City. It also gives a hint that the character played by Jake McLaughlin plays Priyanka’s love interest in the drama. However, there was someone else who wanted to play the role of Priyanka’s lover in ‘Quantico’.

Siddharth Mallya, who adopted the stage name Sid Mallya, had also auditioned for the role, but did not get it. Instead, Jake McLaughlin was cast for the part.

“Priyanka’s character is called Alex and I had read up for the part of her lover. I guess I didn’t get the part because they wouldn’t want two Indians opposite each other. But I have to tell you it was the best pilot script that I had read. I did a talent show with ABC, which is why I got to read for a lot of parts for their shows. Quantise was by far their best,” Sid was quoted by a daily.

Sid, son of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, has been a model and television host and is now looking forward to a career in acting. He is currently pursuing acting at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and had once auditioned for a part in Matthew McConaughey’s ‘True Detective’, which also didn’t work out in his favour.

“They loved my audition, but I didn’t look like a gangster from any angle. A lot of people have said that I look ethnically ambiguous so that works in my favour. I could play Mexican, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, probably the last thing I could play is Indian,” he explained. However, Sid will reportedly make his small screen debut in a Steve Barron production soon.

He was in a relationship with Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone for over a year before they broke up in early 2012.

As for the ‘Quantico’ series that he missed, the trailer was shared on Twitter by Priyanka. It shows the former Miss World amidst a collapsed structure, and then cuts to show her on a flight to the FBI’s training base. She meets a man on the plane who, she finds out, is among her batch mates at the recruitment centre. In a twist, the actress is seen being suspected of masterminding one of the biggest attacks on New York City after 9/11.

The drama series will also cast Jake McLaughlin, Dougray Scott and Aunjanue Ellis, Tate Ellington, Graham Rogers, Johanna Braddy and Yasmine Al Massri alongside Priyanka.

The thriller series will be aired on ABC network later this year.
