Shocking: Karan Johar to be jailed for 5 years

Noted Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar slapped with a legal notice by the Delhi Government and he might go behind the bars for five years.

According to a report, Karan’s Dharma Productions along with Endemol Productions got into legal trouble for airing a Kamala Pasand Pan Masala (a tobacco brand) promotional advertisement. The notice was served by Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), the Health Department of Delhi to the Bollywood filmmaker and the makers of the show.

This is the second time Karan Johar has been slapped by a legal notice. Earlier, the Delhi Health Department had issued a strict agreement notice to Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan, Gauri Khan and others for endorsing smoking in the promotional posters of their film ‘Ittefaq’.

The Health Department has given a 10-day time to respond to the notice, failing which a legal case will be filed against them.

Meanwhile, Karan Johar, who was present at the panel discussion at World Economic Forum Annual Meeting on Tuesday, said that art should not have boundaries and culture cannot be enforced to the people.

The filmmaker shared the stage along with well-known personalities like Yo-Yo Ma, Alice Bah Kuhnke, Minister for Culture and Democracy of Sweden and Arlie Russell Hochschild, Professor of Sociology at the University of California.

The panel was discussing "Can we avoid the spread of so-called 'culture wars'?"

Talking on the matter Karan said, "You cannot enforce culture or imbibe it. There are immense economic and social problems, but sometimes the main papers and politicians don't talk about them because they are focused on a film. It's empowering to the film industry, but it's ridiculous."
