‘Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Pari’ releases today

Love happens… after 40. Shirin and Farhad have finally arrived on the screen to enthrall us with their sweet romantic comedy, ‘Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Pari’.

It is the story of a Parsi couple, Shirin Fugawala and Farhad Pastakiya. Well past their forties, they are going about their routine daily lives, until one-day Shirin arrives at Farhad’s shop. It is love at first sight for Farhad, who works as a sales-man dealing in women’s underwear. He thinks Shirin is his soul-mate, but all hell breaks loose when Farhad’s dominant mother Nagris finds out that Shirin is her arch enemy. What follows is quirky, engaging tale of the two and the small Parsi community.

It has taken 11 years for the film to come into being, as told by director Bela Bhansali Sehgal. Bela is younger sister of veteran filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sanjay is also the producer of the movie.

Speaking to a leading daily Bela said, “The story idea was Sanjay’s and he came up with it about 11 years ago. Boman wasn’t even in films then, but we thought of him in the lead role. We were planning to launch him with this film and our first choice for the other role was also Farah. But somehow, things didn’t work out. We tried to change the backdrop of the film from Parsi to Punjabi and we thought of other people for the roles. However, nothing really materialized and years went by. Finally, two years ago Sanjay and I decided that we had to revive this. We decided to stick to the Parsi backdrop and we spoke to Boman and Farah. Sanjay rewrote the script and the screenplay and it turned out to be quite a cracker. We knew that we had to make this film because the audience of today appreciated different kinds of films.”

On being asked why the audience should go to watch this movie, Bela said, “My film is about love. It says that there is no age for love. Some people get it at the right time while some have to wait a little longer. There is hope for everyone. I think a lot of 40-plus people will to with my protagonists. I just want to tell my audience, fall in love and be happy because you never know what tomorrow will bring for you.”
