‘Shamitabh’ mints in Rs 12.75 crore in the opening weekend

Opened with a mixed review, Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush starrer ‘Shamitabh’ earned Rs 12.75 crore in the opening weekend. Released last Friday, ‘Shamitabh’ earned around Rs. 3. 5 Crore (35 million), on the first day. The film managed to pull in around Rs. 5 Crore (50 million) on its second day. On the third day, the film collected around Rs. 4.25 Crore (42.5 million) on Sunday.  However, ‘Shamitabh’ managed to only pull around Rs 12.75 Crore (127.5 million) at the box office in the opening weekend.

It was assumed that ‘Shamitabh’ would make around 20 crore in the opening weekend but unfortunately, it failed to do so. However, Big B is happy to read out the reviews of critics.

“Reading the reviews on ‘Shamitabh’ gives credence to the film, the thought and the performance…and that is most gratifying for the artiste…many varied colours are painted, but what remains without any doubt is the effort and the execution of that which has been elusive, for most,” Big B wrote on his official blog srbachchan.tumblr.com Sunday.

‘Shamitabh’ is Amitabh and Balki’s third collaboration after ‘Paa’ and ‘Cheeni Kum’. The film also marks the debut venture of Kamal Hassan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan. ‘Shamitabh’ revolves around two individual or actors, who comes together for a film, but drifted apart when their ego clashes.

Big B plays a voice artist, who lip syncs for a mute actor, played by Dhanush.
