Shahrukh Khan takes on the Bachchans

Everyone associated with Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan is well aware of the unspoken rivalry between two of the finest actors. However both the actors have always denied rumours of any kind of rift with the other. In fact publicly both have heaped words of praise and admiration towards each other. However according to sources the rivalry has always been there between Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan. Recently director Karan Johar was dragged into this rivalry as his forthcoming film Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna not only features Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan but also son Abhishek Bachchan.
According to sources, Amitabh Bachchan was not too happy with the screen time that was given to son Abhishek Bachchan in KANK. While Shahrukh is definitely the star of the film and appears in almost every single frame of the film, Abhishek comes across as a mere second fiddle. Sources say “It was obvious that Karan would give more footage to Shahrukh, but Amitji didn’t expect the film to have Shahrukh in each and every frame. It upset him because Abhishek is a very big star now and he has an image to protect.” Hence sources claim that in order to calm and pacify the upset Bachchans, Karan has shot a separate song featuring only Abhi and Preity on the number ‘Where’s The Party Tonight’.

The rock n roll song features a huge lavish set up with Abhi and Preity gyrating to the music. According to sources Karan Johar has unfortunately been dragged into this underplayed rivalry but he is trying to maintain a neutral ground as Shahrukh is very close to him, but at the same time he is well aware of the position and clout that the Bachchans hold in the industry. Karan was earlier too dragged into this rivalry when he wanted to launch the music of KANK at the IIFA 2006 in Dubai. However Shahrukh claimed that he was holidaying with family in London and hence would not be able to go to the IIFA’s . Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of IIFA. So Karan had to launch the music of KANK first in London with SRK and then once again with the Bachchans at the IIFA in Dubai.

According to sources “Both Shahrukh and the Bachchans have decided to promote the film individually and are not doing any promotional activity together.” However director Karan Johar claims that all these rumours of a staunch rivalry and tiff between SRK and Amitabh Bachchan are baseless rumours and are not true. KANK is all set for release on 11 August and it will also be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival . Shahrukh Khan also has another release around the corner; Farhan Akhtar’s Don which is a remake, the original starred Amitabh Bachchan.
