Shah Rukh Khan and his long tryst with injuries

A few days ago, there were reports of a major accident on the sets of Shah Rukh Khan’s untitled film with director Anand L. Rai. The actor’s fans were anxious when news surfaced about a ceiling collapse on the sets, but it was a relief to know that the superstar escaped unhurt this time round as he was sitting on another side, away from the accident spot. However, two crew members suffered injuries in the incident.

While most actors have faced accidents, and suffered injuries while on work, Shah Rukh too has a long tryst with injuries and has hurt his limbs during shooting many times, and even underwent surgeries.

Shah Rukh’s first major injury happened when he was shooting for Yash Chopra’s 1993 film Darr, when he fractured his ribs. A sequence in the movie required the actor to jump on Anupam Kher’s character, but while filming, the senior actor lifted his leg and accidently hit Shah Rukh on his chest causing the fracture.

Around the same time, Shah Rukh also hurt his left ankle while shooting for a fight sequence in another movie. The actor had to jump to the ground from the first floor of a building, but a bad landing caused a twisted ankle. The scene was actually supposed to be done by a stuntman, but Shah Rukh insisted on doing it himself.

While shooting for Rakesh Roshan’s film ‘Koyla’, Shah Rukh badly injured his left knee. However, since they were filming in a remote location and stalling the shoot would cause great loss to the producers. So, King Khan decided to complete the shoot despite being in severe pain. For a sequence, he even tied the red dupatta of his leading lady Madhuri Dixit, around his knee to ease the pain, while making it look like a style statement on screen.

The knee-injury worsened while the actor was working for his home production ‘Ra.One’ following which he underwent a minimal invasive surgery to ease the pain. He again hurt his knee while shooting for Farah Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’, and was rushed to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital. In mid-2015 when he was shooting for ‘Raees’, Shah Rukh underwent an arthoscopic surgery of his left knee after suffering from repeated swellings and pain.

Shah Rukh hurt his right toe during the shoot of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Dil Se…’, but years later, the conditioned worsened when he injured the same toe all over again on the sets of ‘My Name Is Khan’.

The actor was advised to undergo a neck surgery by his physiotherapist, after he suffered an injury while shooting for an action sequence in 2002 action drama ‘Shakti: The Power’ starring Karisma Kapoor. It is the same film where Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has a special appearance in the song ‘Ishq Kamina’. The surgery took place in the UK in 2003.

Shah Rukh suffered a shoulder injury during the shooting of an action scene in ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ in 2007. He again hurt the same left shoulder during shooting of ‘My Name Is Khan’ in 2008. The actor waited for shooting of the film to get over before he could start the medical treatment. Then in in 2013 while filming for Rohit Shetty's ‘Chennai Express’, he underwent a surgery and got treated in London. At that time, he was seen with a cool arm sling for quite some time.

In March this year, he again got a minor follow-up surgery on the same shoulder and was seen joking about his injury by posting a picture on Instagram and writing, “Had a minor follow up surgery on my left shoulder. They marked my right hand like this, so there is no mistake. Sweet.”
