Shah Rukh buys CPL team Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise of Indian Premier League (IPL), has invested in the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel T20 cricket team of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

With this, he has become the first IPL owner to buy a league cricket team abroad.

“The passion for franchise cricket in the Caribbean is evident with the success of CPL and we hope to bring all the best practices of KKR to the T&T franchise,” Shah Rukh was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

The actor, who has now joined his Hollywood counterparts Mark Wahlberg and Gerard Butler in the CPL owners’ club, said it was just a step in their global expansion vision.

“This is in line with our vision to expand globally. We are thrilled to become part of the cricketing tradition of Trinidad & Tobago,” said Shah Rukh who has purchased the CPL team along with his IPL team co-owners Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta.

The players of Shah Rukh’s CPL team include Dwayne Bravo who played for IPL team Chennai Super Kings, Darren Bravo, Samuel Badree, Johan Botha, Kevon Cooper and Kamran Akmal.

Former South African cricketer Jacques Kallis, who played for KKR and is now its mentor, will also be a part of the T&T Red Steel team this year.

King Khan’s CPL team will play its home matches at the historic Queen's Park Oval between July 14 and 19.
