Shabana Azmi turns 65; fans and celebrities wish her

Veteran Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi turned 65 today (Sept 18). Wife of noted lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar, she debuted in 1974 with Shyam Benegal’s ‘Ankur’ and bagged her first National Film Award for Best Actress. She soon became one of the sought after actresses of parallel cinema. In her career of over four decades, Shabana has appeared in over 120 Hindi and Bengali films in both mainstream and independent cinema. Her wide repertoire of work has earned her lot of praise and accolades. She has a record of winning five National Awards and several other international awards, recognitions and honours.

As the renowned actress celebrates her birthday, her fans and followers wished her on Twitter. Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra expressed her admiration for the veteran actress and wished her. “Happy bday @AzmiShabana !!! My favourite.. Always look up to u so much! Lots of love,” she tweeted.

Actress and producer Dia Mirza said Shabana Azmi is her inspiration and tweeted, “Happy Birthday @AzmiShabana. You are awesome and I am grateful to have your humanity inspire me.”

The ‘Masoom’ actress responded to all the wishes saying she felt very much loved and respected. "Am overwhelmed by the love and affection of birthday greetings pouring in already. Feel loved and respected. Thanku all you are my strength," she posted on the micro-blogging site.

Shabana Azmi will be next seen in Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Jazbaa’ starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and Jackie Shroff among others. The film is set to release on October 9.
