Sets of ‘Deewani mastani’ song to be turned into museum?

The song ‘Deewani Mastani’ from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most ambitious film so far has been shot on a magnificent set. Inspired by Lahore's Sheesh Mahal, the set has attracted a large number of visitors at Filmcity in Mumbai. The makers of the film are reportedly mulling over turning the set into a museum instead of pulling it down post the shooting.

The song sequence was filmed on actress Deepika Padukone who plays the role of Mastani in the movie. The 29-year-old actress revealed, “"So much hard work went into creating it, and when we completed the shooting of our song 'Deewani mastani,' we did not want to dismantle the set.”

“It looked like a museum and we actually thought of letting it be like that for visitors at Filmcity to come and see what goes into the making of these grand sets that we see on screen. We were planning to let that set remain so that people get to know about the effort that goes into creating these kind of masterpieces,” a ToI report quoted Deepika as saying.

The set called Aaina Mahal (palace of mirrors) has been recreated by putting together over 20,000 intricately designed mirrors. Special craftsmen from Jaipur worked on embedding of the mirrors to maintain authenticity. It took over 40 days to construct the set.

The massive set measures 12,500 sq feet and the most amazing thing about it is that one angle of the frame reflects in 20,000 mirrors. This can be seen in a shot in the video where Priyanka Chopra looks up at the reflection of Deepika on the ceiling.

The ‘Aaina Mahal’ also had 13 chandeliers which had to be lit up every few hours with candles instead of electric lighting. Sanjay wanted the set to be as authentic as it can be, so he avoided using VFX or visual effects.

'Bajirao Mastani' starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles is slated to hit screens on December 18.
