‘Sarbjit’ earns Rs. 3.69 crores on the first day

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda starrer ‘Sarbjit’ had a poor start at the box-office. The plotline of the story touched the emotional chord of the audience and the performance of the leading star casts was also applauded but still ‘Sarbjit’ based on Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Pakistani jail failed to spark magic at the box-office.

Audience lauded Aishwarya’s performance as Dalbir Kaur (Sarabjit’s sister) and Randeep Hooda as Sarabjit Singh left audience speechless.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the Friday box office collections of Sarbjit on Twitter. #Sarbjit Fri ? 3.69 cr. India biz... Had better occupancy in evening/night shows.

‘Sarbjit’ registered only 15% occupancy on day one.

Hollywood film ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ released on the same Friday affected the release of ‘Sarbjit’.  ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ has opened with around 45% occupancy across the country which is far better than Aishwarya's ‘Sarbjit’.

"#XMenApocalypse opens to 50% occupancy across India... Hollywood takes on Bollywood yet again," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The superhero film ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is the ninth installment film in the ‘X-Men’ series. Directed by Bryan Singer, the film features an ensemble cast starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Alexandra Shipp,Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn and Lucas Till.

Omung Kumar’s ‘Sarbjit’ is the story of Indian resident of the Bhikhiwind village at the Indo-Pak border, who was convicted as a terrorist by Pakistan's Supreme Court in 1991. After 22 years on death row, he was attacked by fellow inmates in jail and died in a Lahore hospital six days later.

Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshika Deshmukh, Sandeep Singh, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Onung Kumar and directed by Omung Kumar, the movie stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda, Richa Chadda and Darshan Kumaar in the lead roles.

‘Sarbjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur enacted by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fought relentlessly for his release.
