Sanjay Dutt mourns aunt’s demise; goes hungry for two days


Late actor-turned-politician Sunil Dutt’s younger and only sister Raj Rani Bali passed away recently in Goa. Her son Nimai Bali, well known television actor performed the last rites.

Following the news of her demise, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who is currently lodged at Pune’s Yerawada Jail went hungry for two days, a source from his family revealed.

The ‘Munna Bhai’ actor was distressed at the news of his aunt’s demise. The actor had wanted to attend the funeral but he could not obtain the permission. A bereaved Sanjay was upset and abstained from eating for two days which made his inmates anxious, a leading national daily reported.

It further added that the actor made a small temple inside his own cell and sat there mourning her death. "From time to time his eyes would well up with tears. But he barely spoke a word. Clearly, he was sad," the report quoted a source.

The actor is serving his sentence following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case for illegal possession of weapons. He is likely to get released by the end of this year.

Sanjay recently turned 56 and was visited by his wife Manyata Dutt and sister Priya Dutt. His Bollywood friends also wished him and said they were awaiting his return.
